The Seven Word Job Hunt Secret

The Seven Word Job Hunt Secret

We tend to bestow our jobs with the ultimate status; granting it almost exaggerated importance in our lives. While it is obvious that a paycheck is absolute survival for the vast majority, being challenged to think beyond this no-brainer.

If you can look away for even a moment, it may help you to maintain balance and offer a bit of solace while you continue the often brutal search for a job.

By now you might think me to be nuts but something struck me and stuck with me some time back. It still brings with it a grain of hope and a measure of detachment so let me explain. Years ago, I attended an international wellness conference which offered a wide range of health-related seminars. The golden nugget that I cling to is a simple statement made by a keynote speaker. I regret not remembering her name as I would love to offer her thanks and credit. However with a feeling of urgency, I will pass this gem to you now and search for reference later.

She was a pre-imminent physician who spoke of the meaning in life gained through near-death experiences; along with lessons we might learn through life’s more common hardship and suffering; little chosen but non-negotiable changes forced upon us; and she offered a conclusion.

“It is not about your curriculum vitae”.

Since then I repeat quietly to myself when all is said and done in life, it just ain’t about a resume; but

  • the person you have become;
  • the character and kindness you have shown;
  • the love you have learned to give and receive.

In a frantic job search, mounting bills, foreclosure or the collapse of credit, we tend to forget.

So please accept this reminder…

Yes, you need work and an income, but please remember “in the end…it’s not about your resume”.

Bonita Eiden earned her Master’s degree from the University of Illinois in counseling in 1986 later gaining certification as a rehab counselor. Eiden does not like to identify herself as ‘opinionated’ however has posited opinions on employment and lack thereof, workplace injury, disability, human rights, a range of human emotions, and weight management. Her opinions have evolved through education, extensive travel and sharing the lives of many people. Her occupational titles include social worker, English teacher, business writer, nanny, flight attendant and whistle blower. She stops short of saying she has wit for the certainty that someone will claim she has made it only half way. She has been mistaken for a wealthy socialite and confused for a Catholic due to family up-bringing. She currently works free-lance as a writer and lives in South Florida.

    I do not know what life really means; or what it means to be alive…. and I have been through “Near Death Experiences.”
    Live your life, row your boat and let The Universe decide.
    If you hear the Sound Of One Hand Clapping, you’ll know it’s time to pack your bags and go.
    There is nothing like “non-negotiable changes forced upon us” One can always leave, turn a curve and bargain. Cut the strings that bind. Freedom is another word for nothing left to lose. Now that is a terrifying thought! So we stay with what we think are “non-negotiable Changes because we need those ties that bind. Argue for your Limitations and dear writer, and they become yours.
    Your resume is a small insignificant shard in the mirror of your totality and the person you have become. Look at the forest… forget the tree… now who said that!!!!!!!
    Time to Go….eeeee——nuff said.
