"What Color is Your Parachute?" Is a Classic You Need on Your Bookshelf
If you are a job-hunter or career-changer, this resource is a must. Just ask any human resource professional and they will vouch for the content provided by the author. And its readily available at any library or bookstore.
Parts I and II of the book covers job search approaches, resume writing, interviewing, and salary negotiation – the basics. It provides recommendations on what to do if you are hampered by a handicap or challenged by age related issues. It also provides online resources for finding information you will likely need as you look for work.
Part III focuses on how to identify a career or job title that’s right for you. It includes exercises for reviewing your skills and interests, identifying your transferable skills, and selecting possible career choices that might work for you. It is great for career changers and undecided college students.
I want to plug the book’s final chapter. It comes so late in the book, few people who know the book and own copies know it’s there. In it, the author works to help you identify your life’s purpose or mission. Drawing from his own Christian tradition, he works to help you link your career with your life mission. He believes, as we do at Back on Track, that connecting yourself with God’s purpose for your life leads to a sense of purpose, true passion about what you do, and an increase in your ability live the best life possible.
I think this material is right on for finding the intersection between God’s will for your life and the career that will help you achieve God’s will for your life.
