Raised by Jesuits, I have to personally say they were indeed my spirit guides, with a life-long one in my precious Fr. Tierney, so I never see their teachings as imposing, but rather loving and all-knowing, even when we do not initially realize it. Thank you for the reminder and more importantly for the inspiration to acknowledge that we are creatures of the Lord and when we are weak, we can find strength in his words and teachings. Blessings! Raised by Jesuits, I have to personally say they were indeed my spirit guides, with a life-long one in my precious Fr. Tierney, so I never see their teachings as imposing, but rather loving and all-knowing, even when we do not initially realize it.
