Hi Jorge,
We spoke briefly via email just last week. I sent you my resume to review. I'm looking forward to your feedback. I said I would check out this site and try to contribute something. Unfortunately, I've hit a block. I'm really depressed and now my car isn't running. I am a female so I get screwed (not in a good way) every time I have to visit the car repair issue. I have a lot more to add to my sob story but I can't have you slashing your wrist on my account. I'm just to fragile to have that on my conscious right now. ;-)
WoW, I actually found some humor in the mist of my tears. There may be hope yet.Basically I think this is my melt down week. I've been out of work for so long I seem to have cycles of really enthusiastic days and really not so good days. This marks the second day of the later.
Anyway, I said all that to say that I like what Debbie the PR person and writer may have to say. From her note to you, it sounds lie she has heard it all and then some in her job searsh. I'd like to read how she stays afloat.
Sincerely,
Marolyn Johnson

This is exactly the kind of material I'm looking for the site. Out of work people face all sorts of challenges. Currently Lookin' is a forum for folks like yourself to share your experiences in order to provide perspective to those that follow. I believe the more personal and reflective your articles, the more others can see they are not alone and can benefit from what you have to share.

Feel free to submit your article and I'll consider it for publication.

Hi Jorge

Here's my story.

My wife decided that we should move from Sydney to Singapore after the birth of our daughter as she was finding it hard coping alone. At this time, I was also kind of getting bored at work as most of the work was done in the US HQ and I had very little to do. But they were happy to keep me doing basically nothing!

My wife got a job in Singapore first so we left Sydney in Dec 2008 and her new company helped us to settle down quite comfortably. I also arranged some contract work that I could do remotely knowing well that the job market has really dried up.

I kept sending resumes and kept revising my cv hoping I would get a response. Unfortunately for me none came and I really began to doubt my abilities and had to do a lot of soul searching. I attended some free government sponsored programmes but they didn't led me anywhere. In Jul 09, a French recruitment company set me up with an interview at a French company and I was able to get a offer letter from them. After signing, they told me I will have to wait a month as the boss was on leave. So I waited a month and then another two weeks hoping to start work. But it didn't work out and they told me they have pulled the plug on the job and so I basically had to start all over again.

Finally, after job hunting for more than 8 months, in Aug 09 I got lucky and got called for an interview. Though I will be taking a slight pay cut, I am happy that I got the job and working again. This was such a low time for me and I really couldn't have coped if it weren't for my wife and the joyous smiles from my daughter.

I don't know if I can offer any advice to anybody other than not to loose hope when things just don't go your way.

You have a good grasp for the kind of stories I'm looking to publish. All your ideas would be great for sharing with our readers. Remember to keep them max 750 words. Make sure and finish with a question, request for what else you could have done or requests for recommendation from the readers. I'm wanting to get the readers engaged by responding through the comments.

Hi Jorge,

I am a PR professional and writer who has been out of work for the past 5 months (and 6 months prior to that for over a year.)

I would be happy to share my job search experience on your blog.

Please let me know what you would like me to write about. A few suggestions:

Throw Out the Old Rules: Looking for a job in the worst recession in over 60 years.

Don't Bother: Have you been told not to come back to work the next day, oh and by the way, just don't come back?

You're AMAZING: Do you keep hearing about your impressive resume, but sorry, we don't have anything now? (read: or ever, because you're overqualified/too old?)

Gotta Stay Positive: Job Searchers are told to stay positive in the face of rejection, it's not you - it's the economy, etc. How do you keep on keepin' on when employers don't even acknowledge that you applied for the job?

Let me know what you think.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Debbie

Hi Jorge,

I would be happy to share my job search experience on your blog.

Please let me know what you would like me to write about. Being told out of the blue not to come to work the next day?
Being told over and over that my resume is very impressive, but sorry, we don't have anything for you right now?
Trying to stay positive in the face of rejection, or worse - no acknowledgement of having applied for the job?

Been there, done that.

Michelle,

Thank you so much for responding to my request. I look forward to your submission.

One thing I'd also like to request is a short paragraph describing your job seeking situation. It provides me with a point of reference so as I read your story, I can picture your perspective more accurately. I believe this will help me as I decide on which posts would work best for the Career Jockey audience.

Found you on Linkedin; sent you a brief message using that server. Will work on a short essay for you; and then contact you for the email address.

Tried to put something on Linkedin, but doesn't allow for that many words.

Thank you so much for your interest in sharing your experience with Career Jockey. Ideally, I'm looking for job seekers wanting to share their personal experiences. You can write about how you felt being laid off (interesting how different people have different reactions), how you are handling rejection from job offers you felt were "in the bag," spousal relationship issues, anything pertinent to people in the midst of a job hunt.

I'm hoping to keep these articles under 700 words, written first person and finish with the author asking other job seekers to share there experiences.

When you have a sample articles (even a short one) contact me via the Career Jockey's contact us page and I'll send you an email address where you can submit it.

Hope this helps.
