Personal Development
I recently wrote my Devil Wears Prada article discussing the potential outcomes of the choices we make. Few of us go out and make an intentional life or career blundering decisions. I, however, have made a string of smaller decisions, or better yet, no decisions at all that over time got me someplace all together wrong.
I’ve done it with Christmas, too. I let Thanksgiving go by without giving much thought to what comes next. The time slips by and before you know it, I shorted myself. …
Professional Development
I enjoy learning and growing in my understanding of the things around me. I want to know myself better and grow in intimacy with the supernatural. It’s the way I’m wired. I have to explore. And this drives me to do a lot of reading.
I started Career Jockey in order to share all the job hunt and personal/professional development resources I had accumulated helping others in their job hunts. These are resources I acquired interacting with career coaches, recruiters and other HR types. …

(This article continues where OERamz’s first article “You’re Fired! Part 1- I Never Saw It Coming left off.)

Funny how the mind takes over as I began to think, we’re moving tomorrow, my boxes are all packed and …

Job Hunt Resources
A week back I published Kevin Donlin’s article “Three Simple Job Search Ideas from Stuff Going on Right Around You.” I started looking around his blog and found a FREE downloadable e-book called “The Simple Job Search Manifesto.” I figured if I’m publishing his story I might as well learn a little bit more about what the guy does.
I’m really glad I did. This 65 page e-book contains a well organized plan for getting yourself back to work. It covers choosing your ideal job, finding the …

Job Hunt Resources
We all want happiness and, unfortunately, during my job searches (there were more than one) happiness escaped me. Fear, anxiety and worry took its place. It was so overwhelming.
I attended a South Florida Interactive Media Association seminar last week and the lead speaker was Julian Smith co-author of New York Times best seller “Trust Agents: Using the Web to Build Influence, Improve Reputation, and Earn Trust.” He shared with us an interesting fact. He said for people making over $50K a year, happiness is unrelated to …

I find myself in a unique situation. I’m unemployed for the first time in my long career. I’ve been working since I was 14. I mean it; my Social Security records show earnings from 1976 to 1979, the years I was enrolled in High School.
Since that time, I was never really unemployed. Sure I had a couple 2 or 3 week vacations between jobs, but nothing like this. After high school, I joined the Army and received training in communications. When I left the Army, I immediately landed a …

My wife and I went the movies to watch “Couples Retreat” and got a bit more than we expected. It was filled with the expected Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau gags. It’s a funny movie. But what surprised us was the very positive pro-marriage message. I think it’s just what the doctor ordered for a strained job seeker marriage. (It’s also a nice treat from a Hollywood that often portrays marriages as antiquated and irrelevant.)
The story begins with four couples going through the motions of …
